Shedd & Reymond

We at RHB know that books can get expensive, and that is why we try our best in keeping prices down.

“A New Systematic Theology of the Christian Faith” expresses a fully biblical Reformed faith, showing its enduring appeal, coherence, and truthfulness. Faithful to historic Calvinst convictions, this new benchmark of Reformed theology covers all the main teachings of the Bible and engages contemporary theological issues with the resources of biblical revelation and sound historical reflection so that the light of the Reformation continues to illumine the life of Christ’s church today. Reading Shedd is like discovering a family heirloom in the attic. By making him available again to a wide audience, the editor, Alan Gomes, has rendered a great service. Gomes has actually improved Shedd’s classic by taking the material from the third somewhat ‘miscellaneous’ volumes and inserting it into the body of the work. Many other helps (viz., glossaries, clear notations, illuminating editorial comments) makes this the best edition of this work. If the questions of the authority of Scripture, God’s omniscience and omnipotence, human helplessness, the substitutionary atonement, justification, the scope of salvation, and the doctrine of endless punishment are as fiercely contested in our day as in Shedd’s, we will find Dogmatic Theology as relevant as ever. One Response to Shedd & Reymond

  1. Shedd’s Dogmatics – what a wonderful and humbling book of Dogmatic Theology! This was one of the major text books which I had to study in my training for the ministry, and I highly recommend it. I never forget the portions I read on the impeccability of Christ. My systematics lecturer used to tell us students: “Men, get Shedd. If you have Shedd then you are well shod.” It is very true!
